Bhismadev Chakrabarti

PhD, Professor, Centre for Autism at the University of Reading (India/UK)

Bhismadev Chakrabarti is Professor of Neuroscience and Mental Health and Research Director of the Centre for Autism at the University of Reading. He holds a visiting professorship at Ashoka University, India and is principal research advisor to the India Autism Center.

Prof Chakrabarti did his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at St Stephen’s College, Delhi. He then read Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge. He continued at Cambridge for a PhD at the Autism Research Centre, Cambridge working with Prof Simon Baron-Cohen.

He moved to the University of Reading in 2009 to set up his own group, where his research has been supported by multiple research grants from the Medical Research Council UK, and most recently from the European Research Council. He was awarded the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Psychology in 2015. He has published over 120 research papers.

His lab studies human social cognitive processes and individual differences therein, using neuroscience and behavioural techniques. In parallel, his lab works on developing scalable tools that can be used in field settings for neurocognitive assessments.
